They interpret it almost as an insult on their very person. It's stupid jargon, though! Nobody ever listens to what comes out of their mouths anymore! Expressions like, "for all intents and purposes", becomes, "for all intensive purposes." English speakers and speakers of English- I regretfully inform you that your public education has failed you.
