With iOS 4.2.1, one of my apps wouldn't load. I tried your "trick" and now it does. Magic! :-) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I was a few days from trowing my iPhone into a brick wall. I followed the steps you listed in your blog above and wow! It's day and night. Before, my iPhone was so slow that sometimes the music that I was playing was slowing down. It was so slow that entering my password to unlock my phone took like over 30 seconds. But now it seems to be back to normal. I'm very happy with it now. A million thanks from me. You saved me from pulling my hair out.

Thanks Dave,
for your hard work on this and for following thru.
I will not update/upgrade anything anymore without reading the forums and pages on the subject.
One reason i could not go back to iOS 3.1.3 is my mac is from 2002, the os is 10.4.11 and the recboot (?) wants to see os 10.5.
That and i cannot understand all the techtalk how-tos. It all looks typical of such instructions; written by someone who knows the stuff really well and so they take for granted that the avg person will understand or assume along with them when they leave out that crucial step which leaves phone and/or computer Dead.
cheers,
Dave

Sorry you're still having trouble, Rico. I don't have any advice to offer you on downgrading. It's not supported by Apple, and so isn't something that I've spent any time investigating.

I updated 3g to 4.0.1, same issue, MEGA SLOW!! I however downgraded to 3.1.2, but was unable to restore any of my notes, texts, or contacts from itunes. I just got a pop up saying that my os was too old. So i went back to the dreaded 4.0.2, and then all my info was back!! Is there any way of not losing all my contacts, notes and texts when downgrading??
